Start Shooting

Never tried shooting before?

The TSC exists to support youngsters to try shooting for the first time, and then to support young shots as they progress - with some TSC Alumni even reaching Olympic standard!

It's great fun - so why not come and give it a go?

A letter from a TSC Academy member - "What the TSC has and the OGC has done for me"

Sam ready to shoot

I started clay pigeon shooting when I was 12 at Bredon School. The lessons were provided by the Oxford Gun Company. They really helped me with my shooting skills and always encouraged me. In July 2014 I won an award for the Most Improved Shooter and I was chosen for this award by the Oxford Gun Company. I have always enjoyed being a part of The School Challenge and even won some awards along the way. Being a part of the Academy has really helped me to improve my shooting skills. All of the staff at the OGC have always encouraged me to do the best I can. I have always enjoyed going to the OGC and everyone makes you feel so welcome. I will be really sad to leave the TSC when I finish school this summer. This has been such an amazing experience for me and has given me so much more confidence with my shooting as well as outside of shooting. The staff at the OGC helped me to believe that with hard work and discipline I could do well at shooting.

A letter from Paul, an Academy member's dad...

Sam ready to shoot

I would like to share my thoughts about the Schools Challenge and the Academy at the Oxford Gun Company. It has given me great pleasure to see how our son has developed his shooting skills but also how he has matured in himself under the guidance of the Oxford Gun Company team. He was given wonderful support right from the start from David, Doug, Shirley, Charlotte and many of the other staff. He enjoyed being part of a team with the Academy and was able to enjoy taking part in many competitions over the years. You have helped instil in him a good attitude – whether you win or lose, whether you do well or not, it is OK. The OGC have always made our son feel at home, like part of the family – and I believe this is very important for young people.

He now plans to go to Canada next year, and thanks to you, he will be taking with him a quiet confidence and self-esteem.

Thanks for everything.

Paul

Thoughts from an Academy member and his dad...

From Sam Morton, Academy member:

"I have really enjoyed being a member of the Academy – this is now my second year.  My shooting has improved so much, and for several weeks now (thanks to the great teaching I get from the Academy staff), I have been shooting 45 or more out of 50!  I have found the private lessons really helpful with Tom – he noticed I had a problem with the way I positioned the gun in my shoulder, and although this sounds like a small thing it has made a huge difference to the way I shoot, and to my scores! It is great being with all the other young people on the team, and we encourage each other whilst also enjoying lots of laughs!!
All the staff are great and very supportive – and we all have fun and make good progress together. Thanks to everyone.
"

From Paul, Sam Morton's dad:

"This is Sam`s 2nd year in the Academy, and he's loved coming to all the sessions. Sam`s shooting has improved so much over the 2 years, and recently he's regularly been shooting mid-to-high 40s out of 50! I think the Academy has really helped Sam to focus well, and to create and achieve personal goals. The teaching has always been at such a high level and the staff are all so encouraging and supportive. I feel it has been so good for Sam to be part of the Academy Team – to experience team work and the camaraderie that goes with it.
All the Oxford Gun Company gang are very caring and really take an interest in the young people in the Academy. My wife and I have seen Sam really mature through being part of the Academy, and he's gained so much confidence, which has given him belief in himself; he knows that he can do well.
We're both very grateful and would like to thank Doug, Shirley, David, Tom and Charlotte, along with the rest of the team, who've all helped Sam so much.
